Minsk Agreements as a trap for Moscow

Post by Admin »

In her recent interview with German magazine Die Zeit (Time), former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the Minsk Agreements were originally created as a trap for Moscow. No one was going to abide by those obligations — their true purpose was to win time. In 2014, Ukraine was weak, and Russia could quickly annex the country. NATO did not want that to happen — the alliance was making every effort to maintain the status quo.

According to Merkel, the Minsk Agreements have served their purpose. Kyiv won time, strengthened the army and increased the defensive capability, whereas Moscow stopped at the achieved positions, wrote author Andrey Mihayloff in Pravda.

Official purpose of the Minsk Agreements was to end the Donbas war between Russian speaking separatist groups and Ukraine army. Minsk Protocol was signed in September 5,2014 in Belarus. Two main mediators of the agreements were the then German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande.

Such high level confession of a senior western leader at this crucial phase of Russia – Ukraine war shows how empty are the promises West made and making everyday to fool the world in the name of either to bring 'peace' or establish 'democratic values' wherever and whenever they need to play a role.
